Name: | Tatooine | System: | Tatooine | Area of Space: | Outer Rim | Galactic Region: | B | Homeworld of: | Jawas, Tusken Raiders | Description: | Tatooine is a desert planet. It has only limited amounts of moisture in its atmosphere, which is collected by mostly human moisture farmers. The temperatures are the extremes, in the day it can reach over half-way to the boiling point of water, and in the night well below water-freezing. | Comments: | Tatooine, being near the end of the Corellian Run, attracts a lot of outlaws and people with Bounty Hunters after them. The two biggest cities, Mos Eisley and the slightly more modernised Mos Espa are hives of criminal activity, especially the former. Anakin Skywalker grew up in Tatooine as a slave to a vendor there, the Toytarian Watto. Luke Skywalker also hails from Tatooine, and General Obi-Wan Kenobi hid from the Empire on Tatooine after assisting Bail Organa in the Clone Wars. The Native creatures on Tatooine include the Dewbacks, large bulky lizards ideal for taming and moving around the cities, and Banthas, which travel as partners to the Tusken Raiders. Banthas are roughly the same size as Dewbacks, but have tusks and a thick coating of long, brown hair. Krayt dragons also live in the caves of the desert, and a jewel cut from a krayt dragon is worth a fortune. The native sentients here are the Jawas, small beings with bioluminescent eyes. This is all that is known about their appearance, as the rest of their body is covered by brown robes. They are expert scavengers, and their language is constantly changing, making it impossible to learn, although thay can make themselves understood when dealing old droids and droid parts. Tusken Raiders, known locally as the Sand People, are tall human-like creatures which cover themselves completely with robes, heat suits, and sand goggles. They only show their faces to their lover, and their traditions are harsh like the climate they live in. If a decessor to the tribe's storyteller, for example, can't recite a story word for word, he is killed on the spot. Not much is known about the origin of the two sentients on Tatooine. The most controversial theory is that they both decended from a common ancestor, that ancestor being humans. Anakin Skywalker is the only person to have a confrontation with a Tusken Raider and walk away without either side being killed. This happened when he was a young child of about eight standard years old. Anakin Skywalker was taken from Tatooine by two Jedi when he was thought to be the prophecised 'one', a being who would bring balance to the Force. He promised to return to free his enslaved mother Shmi. Anakin was later seduced by the Dark Side, and became Emperor Palpatine's apprentice, renaming himself Darth Vader. Anakin's son Luke was also brought up on Tatooine. When he was twenty standards old, his father purchased two droids found by the Jawas, one of which held plans for the first Death Star. Darth Vader killed Luke's family while he was out to find one of the droids, who had tricked Luke to remove its restraining bold). It had run off to find General Obi-Wan Kenobi, with a message from Leia Organa regarding the Death Star plans. Obi-Wan Kenobi found Luke after he was attacted by Tusken Raiders, and after Luke found the charred remains of his home, decided to go to Alderaan with Kenobi. They found Han Solo at a Mos Eisley cantina, who was on the run from Jabba Desilijic Tiure's bounty hunters after dropping some spice to outrun Imperials. Luke returned to Tatooine in ABY 3 to contruct a new lightsaber, and plan the rescue of Han Solo, who had been encased in carbonite for Jabba the Hutt. He returned again in ABY 12 with Solo to try and recontact the spirit of Obi-Wan, but this failed. Tatooine is a favourite place with the Hutts. They have been the effective rulers there for decades. |
