It has a mix of vast countryside, forest, swamps, and various seas. | Comments: | (Information above is pre-22 BBY only) Naboo has historical importance as it was because of the Trade Federation crisis that Palpatine became elected Supreme Chancellor, where he went on to declare himself Emperor of his New Order. The Trade Federation had blockaded Naboo in BBY 32 because of the new trade route taxation system that the Old Republic had introduced. They had made a deal with two Sith - a race of Jedi that had embraced the Dark Side. The Sith had once destroyed each other in a battle for power, destroying all but two. From then on, only two Sith ever existed - a master and an apprentice - to stop this ever happening again. They stayed hidden for a millenia, when the apprentice, Darth Maul, revealed them to Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi. He mortally wounded Qui-Gon, but Obi-Wan then killed Maul. The deal with the Trade Federation gave the Federation power to attack Naboo when their leader, newly elected 18 year-old Padmé Amidala refused to sign a treaty to make the invasion legal. Amidala tried to escape to Coruscant to inform the Senate about the attack, but the hyperdrive was wrecked by Trade Fed. fighters, and they instead went to Tatooine, a Hutt-ruled desert planet, to find a new hyperdrive. During this time, Qui-Gon found young Anakin Skywalker, and took him back to Coruscant in the belief that he was the chosen one, a prophesised Jedi who would bring balance to the Force. Anakin began his training with Obi-Wan when Qui-Gon was killed. Amidala, restless with the senate's inability to act quickly on anything, called for a Vote of No Confidence on the current Supreme Chancellor, who was soonafter replaced with Palpatine. [Theory -- In years to follow, the entire Gungan race, who rarely travelled off-planet, were destroyed during the Clone Wars.] |
